  7.     definitions files for the following products:

  9.               Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95
  10.               Norton AntiVirus for NetWare 1.0 & 2.0
  11.               Norton AntiVirus 3.0 (DOS / Windows 3.x)
  12.               Norton AntiVirus 3.0 Network Manager

  14.     Thank you for downloading the virus definition update for Norton
  15.     AntiVirus version 3.0,  Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95, and Norton
  16.     Antivirus for Netware versions 1.0 and 2.0.

  19. This update contains the following files:
  20.  
  21. UDPATE.TXT    This file
  22. DEC95.TXT     Text file that describes what's new in this update.
  23. VIRSCAN.DAT   This is the main data file used by Norton AntiVirus. This
  24.               file replaces the existing VIRSCAN.DAT in your Norton
  25.               AntiVirus directory.
  26. VIRSCAN.INF   This data file is used by Norton AntiVirus to display
  27.               virus information, such as virus characteristics and
  28.               behavior. This file is not required to detect or repair
  29.               viruses.
  30. VIRSPEC.TXT   Special instructions concerning specific viruses.

  70. To update Norton AntiVirus 3.0 virus definitions:

  73. *                 IMPORTANT NOTICE - Norton Antivirus v3.0                    *

  75. *   If your version of Norton AntiVirus 3.0 for Windows and DOS is dated      *
  76. *   before June 9, 1995, you will need to update it using the NAV July        *
  77. *   1995 Update in order to use these virus definitions. If you have not      *
  78. *   updated your version, download the NAV July 1995 Update from the          *
  79. *   Symantec BBS, Symantec's FTP site, CompuServe, or America Online.         *
  80. *   The file is called UPDATEME.EXE and is located where the monthly          *
  81. *   update files are normally found. Alternately, you may call                *
  82. *   Customer Service at (800) 441-7234 to obtain the NAV July 1995            *
  83. *   Update disk.                                                              *

  86.    1.  Copy 12NAV95.ZIP the location where Norton AntiVirus has been
  87.        installed.  By default, this is the C:\NAV directory.
  88.  
  89.    2.  Change to the drive and directory where you copied the file to.
  90.        Verify PKUNZIP.EXE can be found somewhere along the PATH.
  91.        At the DOS prompt, type: PKUNZIP -O 12NAV95.ZIP
  92.  
  93.    3.  Scan a drive, directory, or file with Norton AntiVirus 3.0, in
  94.        either DOS or Windows.  Doing so, will automatically update the
  95.        Norton Antivirus TSR.

  97.    4.  Reboot your computer to reload the updated Norton Antivirus
  98.        TSR.

  102. To update Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 virus definitions:
  103.  
  104.    1.  Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop. The My
  105.        Computer window opens displaying your available drives.
  106.  
  107.    2.  Double-click the drive or directory that contains the Norton
  108.        AntiVirus definitions update .ZIP file.
  109.  
  110.    3.  Copy 12NAV95.ZIP file to your Norton Antivirus for Windows 95
  111.        folder.  By default, this is the C:\Program Files\Norton
  112.        Antivirus folder.
  113.  
  114.    4.  Change to the drive and directory where you copied the file to.
  115.        Verify PKUNZIP.EXE can be found somewhere along the PATH.
  116.        At the DOS prompt, type: PKUNZIP -O 12NAV95.ZIP
  117.  
  118.    5.  Scan a drive, directory, or file with Norton AntiVirus.
  119.        Doing so, will automatically update the Auto Protect portion of
  120.        Norton Antivirus.
  121.  
  122.    6.  Restart your computer so that the Automatic Protect will use the
  123.        newest virus definitions.

  127. To update Norton AntiVirus for NetWare 1.0 & 2.0 virus definitions:

  134. *   NLM with these virus definitions may cause false alarms with garbled      *

  136. *   call Customer Service at (800) 441-7234.                                  *

  155.      AntiVirus for NetWare Windows configuration component (NAVNLM.EXE),

  162. To update Norton AntiVirus Network Manager virus definitions:

  164.  NOTE: The Norton AntiVirus Network Manager maintains a network copy
  165.        of Norton AntiVirus to support distribution. Make sure you have
  166.        access rights that allow read and write operations to the
  167.        NAV directory.
  168.  
  169.    1.  Map a drive letter to the volume and directory where Norton
  170.        AntiVirus is installed.
  171.  
  172.    2.  Copy 12NAV95.ZIP to the location mapped in step 2.
  173.  
  174.    3.  Change to the mapped drive.
  175.        Verify PKUNZIP.EXE can be found somewhere along the PATH.
  176.        At the DOS prompt, type: PKUNZIP -O 12NAV95.ZIP
  177.  
  178.    4.  If your version of Norton Antivirus Network Manager is dated on or
  179.        before July 1, 1995, you must modify your .NNS configuration
  180.        file to install/distribute all update files (by default, this
  181.        file is _DEFAULT.NNS)
  182.  
  183.        a) First locate the [InstallFiles] section in your .NNS file.
  184.           Add the entry:
  185.               VIRSP*.DAT
  186.           to the list.
  187.  
  188.        b) Second locate the [DefinitionUpdateFiles] section.  Add
  189.           the entry:
  190.               VIRSP*.DAT
  191.           to the list.
  192.    
  193.     The new definition files are now in place for network distribution.
